AIF Valuation Updates: What to Track Between Formal Valuation Dates

AIF valuations do not move like listed stocks every minute, but that does not mean nothing changes. Investors should know what to track between formal valuation dates, especially in private equity, venture, real assets, or structured credit.

Focus on fundamentals and signals: portfolio company updates, credit events, covenant behaviour, asset sales, and material news that can change value. Also pay attention to how often the fund reports, what assumptions are used, and whether there is a consistent valuation policy.

The goal is not to second-guess the valuer. The goal is to stay informed enough to understand the direction of risk and to avoid surprises.
