Return Drivers vs Return Numbers: How to Compare Two Managers Properly

Two managers can show the same return and still be completely different. One may be taking concentrated bets. Another may be delivering steady outcomes with tighter risk controls. The return number is the headline, not the story.

Compare managers by return drivers: how much comes from sector bets, factor exposure, concentration, timing, cash levels, or derivatives. This applies across PMS, AIF, and SIF. When you understand the driver, you understand what can go wrong when the cycle turns.

March is a good month to do this comparison because many investors review portfolios before year-end. If you upgrade the quality of your comparisons, you upgrade the quality of your decisions for the next year.

Truvest Insight: Same return can hide very different risk.
